# Becoming a publisher

> Request the role that lets you create and deploy apps.

Source: /toft-docs/latest/user/account/becoming-a-publisher/

Every account has one system role.

| Role | Can |
|---|---|
| **Viewer** | Open apps shared with them |
| **Publisher** | Everything a viewer can, plus create, deploy and own apps |
| **Administrator** | Run the install |

New accounts are usually viewers.

## Request it

1. Open **Your account → Overview**.
2. Select **Request publisher access**. Your administrators are notified.
3. Once approved, sign out and back in to use it.

While it is pending you can **Withdraw request**.

## What changes

You get the **New app** button and can own apps. You do not get access to anyone else's app — sharing is per app. See [Asking for access](/toft-docs/latest/user/share/requesting-access.md).

> **Note**
>
> A viewer cannot be granted **can edit** on an app, because editing means deploying. Become a publisher first, then ask for the grant.

Administrators are appointed directly; this request never makes you one.
