# From the gallery

> Deploy a working example in any supported framework, then make it your own.

Source: /toft-docs/latest/user/deploy/from-the-gallery/

The **Gallery** lists apps the Toft team publishes. Deploy one to see what a
working app in your framework looks like, then read and change its source.

If the Gallery page says it is switched off, your administrator has not
enabled it.

## Two kinds of item

| | What it is | Who can deploy it |
|---|---|---|
| **Example** | A working app in one framework. Yours to change. | Anyone who can create apps |
| **Extension** | A tool that adds a capability to the install. | Administrators only |

Some installs list extensions only. Gallery items require Toft 0.7.0 or
later.

## Deploy an example

1. Open **Gallery** and select **Deploy** on an item.
2. Set a **Name** and **Slug**, and fill in any variables it asks for.
3. Select **Deploy**.

The result is an ordinary app: your slug, your settings, your sharing. Edit
it, redeploy it, delete it. **Deploy another copy** makes a second one.

An example has no update channel — once deployed, it does not change unless
you change it. **Settings → Unlink from the gallery** removes the record of
where it came from; nothing else changes.

## What an item cannot do

A gallery item names code and may ask for environment variables. It cannot
grant itself a permission, change a setting, or reach anything you could not.
