# Asking for access to an app

> Request access to an app you can see but not open, and answer requests for your own apps.

If an app is in your list but you cannot open it, request access.

1. Open the app, or use **Request access** next to it in the app list.
2. Under **Why you need it (optional)**, say what you are working on. A clear note gets a faster answer.
3. Select **Request access**.

The request asks for **Viewer** access. While it is pending, the app's page shows it, and you can **Withdraw** it. The owner's answer appears on the same page, including the reason for a declined request.

> **Note**
>
> Nobody gets access because a request went unanswered. There is no automatic approval and no timeout.

## What you cannot ask for

- **An app you cannot see.** If an app is not in your list, Toft answers "not found". Ask the owner directly.
- **Editor access while your account role is viewer.** That request is declined automatically. [Become a publisher](/toft-docs/latest/user/account/becoming-a-publisher.md) first.

## Answering requests for your app

Pending requests appear at the top of your app's **Access** tab, with each person's note. Select **Approve** or **Decline**; you can add a reason when you decline. For a group-owned app, any member of the owning group can answer.

Grant the smallest role that does the job, and answer every request, including with "no".
